Our number one students from each grade have passed with flying colours! They are: Jaime Taylor (Grade 8 student), Marissa Fourie (Grade 9 student), Renske Strauss (Grade 10 student), Natalie Cheyne ( Grade 11 student) and Martine Hartung (Grade 12 student). These academic stars all have specific studying methods that help them to get to number one. This is the top students study methods revealed!
Jaime Taylor in Grade 8 achieved an amazing average of 89.8% for the first term of 2018. She says what works best for her is to study in her room so that she is in a quiet environment. She reads through her study notes and then say them out loud to see what she has remembered. “And if I didn’t, then I reread my study notes again.” A break every half an hour is also what helps her study.
Marissa Fourie in Grade 9 achieved a terrific average of 88.2% for the first term. She studies best with colours, symbols and pictures. “The biggest tip that I can give you is to pay attention in class and to make sure you understand all of the work.”
Renske Strauss in Grade 10 received an outstanding 95.1% on her report card at the end of the first term. A tip she gave is to focus in class. “Almost 90% of studying or remembering the work comes from listening in class.”
Natalie Cheyne in Grade 11 achieved a marvelous mark for her first term of 87.9%. Natalie says what works best for her is to listen and pay attention in class and to take down all notes and summaries. “By this time I’m understanding all the work. Then before the tests, I read my previous notes out loud and it’s memorised.”
Martine Hartung in Grade 12 as well as our head girl achieved an excellent average of 90.7% for the first term. Her mother always tells her that if she goes through the work three times she will achieve 80%, but if she does this four times she will achieve 90%. She therefore uses this as inspiration to go through the work four times and uses at least three sources (textbooks, notes from her teachers and the answer guide). After going through the work four times she works through tons and tons of question papers. “During the exams I drink at least 7 cups of tea every day.
Well done to our top 5 academic stars! They hope you take all of these study tips into consideration for the upcoming test week and exams. And remember guys, seven cups of tea a day, then you are A for away.
